About the Course

This course offers a comprehensive overview of affirmative clinical supervision of associates. We will clarify the multiple roles of an affirmative clinical supervisor, emphasizing expected competencies essential for effective practice and supervisee growth and development. The curriculum explores the dynamics of the supervision relationship, including cultural and contextual considerations that can impact the supervisory relationship. Participants will learn practical systems for effective goal setting, evaluation of the associates work, and tools for providing ongoing feedback. Further, participants will also learn to assess an associate's skills in the treatment setting (telehealth or in person), treatment modality (theoretical approach), and use of technology (electronic charts, telehealth offices, HIPAA compliant digital communication). Utilizing lecture, discussion, and vignettes, this course training aims to equip new supervisors with the foundational knowledge and practical guidance necessary to navigate the complexities of affirmative clinical supervision, particularly with either LGBTQIA+ associates or associates working with LGBTQIA+ clients.
